About The People's Ledger

What government is actually doing, from official records.

Who makes it

The People's Ledger is a nonprofit project made by Jack Bergin. It is not affiliated with any government, parliament, electoral commission or political party. It has no advertising and collects no personal data.

Where the facts come from

Federal votes: every recorded division of the 48th Parliament from Hansard, 23 July 2025 to 13 Oct 2026, as parsed by the OpenAustralia Foundation.
Bills, Acts and Hansard documents: aph.gov.au, ParlInfo and the Federal Register of Legislation.
Members, senators and parties: the Parliament of Australia and the Australian Electoral Commission.
Victorian election: the Victorian Electoral Commission and the Parliament of Victoria.
Sitting calendar: the Parliament of Australia's official sitting calendar.
State governments: each state's or territory's parliament or government. State statistics: the Australian Bureau of Statistics only.
Every screen shows its source and the date we checked it. Tap a source to open the original.

How we choose what to show

Votes and bills: every recorded vote is included. Votes taken "on the voices" (without a recorded division) aren't recorded by name in Hansard, so they can't be shown.
Compare: a selection of bills this Parliament has voted on, each linked to its official text. A party's position is how most of its members voted on the final reading. It is a match to your answers, not a ranking.
Promises: commitments reported during the 2025 federal election, each with its sources. Only the party in government can deliver or break a promise.
Our plain-English summaries are labelled as ours and always sit beside the official title.
